History Today One of the world's oldest illustrated history magazine. This site has a huge collection of articles which have been extracted from their magazine (and History Review) and made available online. The articles are written by experts in their time and have often been referenced by noteworthy authours. The topics include the English Civil War, the Napleonic Era, the first World War, the Byzantine Empire, French Revolution, the Crusades and many more. This is indeed a serious collection of articles - maybe even enough for the most die-hard history buff.

Newspaper Archive The name says it all. This is a site where they have archives of old newspapers ready for your viewing. Just imagine that you need to refer to some article that was written like 5 years ago, where do you find such an article in the newspapers. You can't. Even those online newspapers do not provide their users with archive older than a few months. This is where Newspaper Archive comes in. You can explore historial archives of newspapers as early as 1607! Wow, that sure is very impressive. It is like having your very own time machine, enabling you to travel way back to the time where there wasn't even such thing as a computer. Heck, I think they didn't even have cars back then. And now you are able to read the newspaper from that time. I believe that they scan the newspaper into a digital copy and you can browse through them like in the libraries. They claim to be the biggest online newspaper database with over 120 million newspaper pages in their database. I think it is a good thing - we should not forget our past and our history.

MacroHistory Intended here is a description of events and ideas from prehistory to the 21st century - stories that hopefully connect into a big picture. In these narratives I try to avoid the distortion and superficiality that result from including only those facts that please everyone. All that is written here is done without favor or hostility and with respect for those whose opinions differ from mine. Insults are unintended and hopefully factual. And my narratives leave space for readers to apply their own values and thoughts. -
