| The Sydney Morning Herald The Sydney Morning Herald began life as the weekly Sydney Herald. It cost 7d, had just four pages and only 750 copies were printed. The paper, named after Scotland's Glasgow Herald, was founded by Englishmen Alfred Ward Stephens, Frederick Stokes and William McGarvie, who all worked for the Sydney Gazette.
The trio's new paper was initially based in Redman's Court, near George Street. Ten years later, John Fairfax (pictured left) began his family's 149-year long control of the paper. The bankrupt Englishman had published the Leamington Spa Sketch Book before migrating to New South Wales in 1838. - |

| Courier Mail All the best to offer in Australian news. I don't know since I don't live in Australia but apparently this is one of the more popular newspapers out there. In the past, newspapers were delivered via courier or mail, hence the name "Courier Mail". Probably due to the fact that Australia is so vast with very little population. Anyway, they are a daily newspaper based in Brisbane Australia. And as with all newspaper they have some political biasedness which tends to make them less honest in their reporting. But then who am I to comment, considering the biasness of the newspapers back home. Anyway, since they don't have much in terms of competition, they do have a huge circulation - nearly 230,000 daily from the weekdays and 360,000 at the weekends. Not too bad. You can read the latest news regarding politics, business, sports, lifestyle, entertainment, technology, property, travel and many more. This is a full fledged newspaper. Their newspaper is in the form of a tabloid so you can get all the headlines and little information - just as most readers want it. |
