Hotmail The one that started it all - Hotmail. Although most people won't recognize the name anymore, this is the webmail that started it all - it offers Internet users a fee webmail account! When I first went online, the thing I did was to sign up for an hotmail account. It was the in-thing to do back then. What you get is an unique email address - it was so cool then. I gave all my friends my email address and everyone (even those without Internet access) was like "WOW"! Anyway, they have since been replaced by other email providers like Gmail and even Yahoo mail. Sure they started offering huge storage space for their accounts, but it was just a bit too late. Not to mention, hotmail seems to always be the target for spammers. My old hotmail account has like 90% junk mail which is kind of irritating for their users. I don't want to wake up on the morning, only to find my email bombarded with spam. They don't support POP or IMAP though, just web access. Oh, Hotmail was purchased by Microsoft, so they have renamed it Windows Live Hotmail.

GMX Mail I used to use their email service but back then it was bad. Real bad. I get frequent disruption in their service which of course I can't afford, so I ditched them. However, from what I read, they have bounced back from their subpar service and is now often rated very highly. GMX offers free email and webmail service to their customers. And you can store up to 5GB of emails in your inbox, which rivals that offered by their competitors. One of the coolest feature is that they allow users to receive emails up to 50MB of attachment, something which not many email providers allow. They also claim that they have a very powerful spam filtering system which can get rid of all those unwanted junk mail for you.Their interface is also superb - featuring easy to use folders and panels, drag and drop menus and so on. All you need to ensure that your accessto your emails is smooth. I hate clunky interfaces, especially for webmail access since I use them very often.

BigString Do you need unlimited storage? Well most people will claim that they do not need "so much space". But honestly, having unlimted storage is one of the best thing that could happen to you. Why? Well, then you don't need to worry about not having enough storage space and having to spend time deleting old emails and so on. And BigString also claims that they offer better control on how you send your emails, how the emails are storage and provides less risk to the users. I don't know whether that really works or not, but it certainly gives you some peace of mind when writing emails right? But I understand the limitations of emails - you can't really do anything once it leaves your server. It is exactly like snail mail, but just that a lot of people might have easy access to you without you even knowing it. I think if everyone practices some form of security, then email could be a secure form of communication.
