Hermes The ultimate in luxury fashion. If you have ever travelled to those high end boutique shops selling ultra-expensive clothing, you would have spotted this name sitting painfully silent on the windows or somewhere. What is amazing is that unlike most other fashion houses, they don't seem to be selling themselves as much as the competition. To me, I think it is because their brand name is so endearing that there is not really a need. We know that their designs will be absolutely classic and you will definitely look good wearing or carrying their leather stuff. I mean anything with the "PARIS" word below should be good right? Oh, other than leather goods, they are also specialize in jewellery, perfumes, watches and even men's accessories like the silk tie. You can browse through their online store and stare sadly at all their expensive items for sale or read up on the history of this interesting little fashion house based in Paris. We can complain all we want about the Frenchies but I have to admit, they do have good taste.

Hennes & Mauritz H & M is short for Hennes & Mauritz. They are a global leader in fashion for women, men, children and teenagers. So basically everyone who is really interested in clothing right? They sell clothings & accessories (even cosmetics) with different concepts for different types of people to different occasions. No wonder they are so big. They have operations in over 40 countries and employs more than 87,000 people. furthermore, they are one of the most recognized brands in the world. For me, I hardly even heard of them. Probably because I am not into fashion and makeup. Women in most modern cities would have gone graze over the products I am sure. H & M also retail their clothings online. And recently they have added a furniture lineup to their online store. Wow, amazing. I didn't know fashion and furniture goes hand in hand. Anyway, they originated from Sweden so maybe they are selling the furnitures for Ikea.

Christian Dior Come on, you have never heard of this brand? It is probably one of the most famous brand in fashion. Every women on this planet would have heard of Christian Dior. The bare mention of the name conjures up images of beauty, elegance and class - all of which I do not have. Not that I want them of course, but it is a well-known fact that if you are beautiful, elegant and classy, things will usually go smoother for you in life. This company is named after the leading French fashion designer and yes, they do have numerous elegant wear for women (and even for men as well). Other than fashion, they also have fragnances, make-up, skincare, jewellery and watches. And as they are classy to the max, you will have to fork out a lot of dough to own one of their products. They have many stores and boutiques in high end shopping areas around the world. In my opinion, there are better ways to spend your hard earned money but that is just me. Many people would kill their grandmothers just to buy one of their Haute couture. I need a palmface about right now.

Gap Yes, this company is all about leaving a gap in your pocket. A big deep gap which you might never refill. Although they do not sell those expensive high end luxury clothing, their clothings and accessories are still relatively upscale. Think - not budget. They have several brands under the company, some of which you might recognize - Banana Republic, Old Navy, Piperlime, Athleta and their own namesake. They design, manufacture and sell stylish clothings for both children and adults. Each of the different brands caters to the different market segments which I think is a good idea for a fashion house. I actually liked their designs and their products, but somehow they are often overshadowed by other brands. Perhaps their marketing is not good enough to attract me but then I am not someone who is that interested in fashion anyway. They do sell online now and they ship internationally!

J.Crew J.Crew is a mult-brand fashion retailer. They started out as a high-end fashion boutique which specializes in elegant wear but at a much lower price point. But now they sells almost every single fashion item you can find - clothings like swimwear, loungewear, smartwear, for weddings, shoes, handbags, accessories and so on, catering to a wider range of customers. Their style is refreshing chic with shade of class. I don't know what that means actually. They currently have over 200 retail stores and over 80 factory outlets in the United States. Every year, they distribute 24 editions of this J.Crew catalog to their customers and they claim that they have sent over 80 million copies. They even sent these catalogs to potential customers in Asia and Europe. Although I won't say that they are very well-known around the world, but at the rate they are expanding, it will just a matter of time before they become famous. And seriously, what is there not to like about their designs?

Givenchy Don't you just love the French and their fashion sense. Sure, they can't fight to save their lives, but they can really dress very well. Hmm...probably they dress too well, that is why they can't fight? Anyway, Givenchy is a relatively young brand and they dabble with clothing, accessories, perfumes and cosmetics. They have also started expanding to men's wear as well. But maybe I am just too old fashioned, but the designs and the style of Givenchy seem a bit too bold and different for me. So it is true, their designs are one which you either love or hate. If you are young and would like to experiment with different styles which would probably make you stand out, you should take a look at their exclusive range of clothing and accessories. They have stores all over the world, including the Middle East. For me, I will just stick with the classics.

United Colours Of Benetton Okay, their designs definitely look gay. Not all of their designs but significant number of them looks seriously outright gay. Of course I don't have anything against gays but I believe that gays do not form a majority of the population, hence it might be difficult for them to sell. I also don't want to dress like them. But somehow I am wrong, most people like their designs. They call it "creative" and "bold use of colors" and so on. Their products include everything under the sun like active wear, swimwear, casual wear, underwear and so on for both adults and kids. I wonder why do you need contrasting colours in your underwear? Anyway, the Benetton Group is based in Italy and they are now one of the most popular "luxury" fashion groups in the world. They have a network of over 2000 stores worldwide. For old farts like me, I won't be caught "dead" wearing one of their clothing out on the streets. I might get run over by a truck and then stripped naked for my crimes against fashion.

Zara A fashion house with a difference. Not just with their designs but how they go about with their business. If you haven't notice, you should know that they seldom do any advertisement and they rely on their designs to advertise on their own. What they do is save the money on advertisements and open up new stores throughout the world. They have stores in over 73 countries. They also claim to have one of the shortest design to production leadtime in the industry. This allows them to react faster to industry trends and they call this "instant" fashion. Their products include clothing for women, men and children. Trenchcoats, jackets, dresses, shirts, swimwear, shoes, bags, belts, scarves and accessories are all there. Actually they are famous due to the fact that their range of products and styles are significantly more than their competitors. What is most important is that their prices for their designs are lower as well. They are based in Spain, hence the weird name.

Abercrombie & Fitch The fashion retail chain for youngsters age from 18 to 22. Wow, with such specific age group as their target customers, their designs better be good enough to attract a lot of sales. They specialize in casual wear and that would probably make sense. And they have also expanded internationally with stores and franchises in numerous countries around the world. They have all sorts of different clothings for men and women. Recently they have added a kids line which would mean that their 18 to 22 age group focus is out of whack. Although I would not consider them a truly luxury brand, the prices for their clothing is not that cheap either. And remember, their designs are for casual everyday wear. They are also famous for their "perfect looking" models, many of whom can be seen on their website. You can check them out in the castings section. By the way, Abercrombie & Fitch, despite their foreign sounding name, is an all-American brand.

American Eagle An active wear chain based in the United States. Here you will find all sorts of clothing for the active person in your family. And that would most likely limited the age group to less than 25. Their impressive lineup includes clothing like shorts, low-rise jeans, T-shirts, footwear, swimwear, wallets, sunglasses as well as personal care products. They have over 900 retail locations throughout the United States and Canada. Active wear brands are usually very popular among the youngsters and American Eagle is no exception. And in my opinion, their prices are pretty reasonable considering their reputation. Let's be honest, how expensive will they be able to charge their customers for active wear anyway. For me, these are the type of clothing which I am interested in, since as you all know, I am a rather active person. Other than sitting on the couch all day drinking beer, I at times need to drive to the local supermarket to buy more beer. They also have the Aerie and the 77kids brand. Aerie caters to intimates for the 15-22 females while 77kids are meant for the kids.

Kate Spade Ahh.....this company is just like the little girl in you. Oh, not me though. I don't really have any "little girl" in me. I believe that I am a very manly male. If you don't believe me, just ask my friends. Most of them would say I am a alpha male. But of course if you are not and you would like something for that "little girl" in you, check out Kate Spade. Apparently they are one of the bigger brands in fashion today. Of course they are not as popular like Prada or whatever but still many women would kill for their handbags or clothing. They claim to have over 42 retails stores in the United States and in almost every continent, theyhave at least one store. So ladies from all over the world can purchase their products which range from handbags to wallets to shoes to clothing to jewelry. Their designs are distinct with those stripes which seem to go quite well. But then I am no fashion person, so I really don't know. As long as it looks good, I say it is good.
