| Google Books In the beginning, there was Google Books.
Well, not exactly. But one can certainly argue that the project is as old as Google itself. In 1996, Google co-founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page were graduate computer science students working on a research project supported by the Stanford Digital Library Technologies Project. Their goal was to make digital libraries work, and their big idea was as follows: in a future world in which vast collections of books are digitized, people would use a "web crawler" to index the books' content and analyze the connections between them, determining any given book's relevance and usefulness by tracking the number and quality of citations from other books. - |

| Good Reads The ultimate book recommendation site. I guess this is more of a book sharing social network than anything else. You can get recommendations from other readers, keep track of what you have read and even play book trivia, if you are really a book geek. What you do is browse through what others are reading (and enjoying), check out their own reviews and even join in any discussions regarding the books. Not to mention, they have also collected tons of information on books like date of print, author profile and awards the book has gartered. Useful website even for those who are not geeks. |

| The Phrase Finder Here you can find all the phrases, sayings, idioms and expressions you ever wanted. Basically a storeroom of words that make you sound more cool than you actually are. And it is very important for writers as well, whether you are a book author, a copy writer, journalist or even an advertisment executive. I myself have been to this site many times. No, not to find phrases or anything but to contribute my wealth of mind bending words to their database. Na, just kidding. I would probably be the only one there without a moustache and would be ridiculed. Check out the Phrase Thesaurus - it finds phrase rather than just words. What it actually does is generates a list of phrases and sayings that corresponds to your topic. Extremely useful if you are out of ideas and inspiration for your article. However, the Phrase Thesaurus is not free. It does require an annual fee but I think that it is more than worth it. |

| Book Depository I would say, Why not? Books is the most important source of information for everyone way before the Internet was invented. And it still is. The Europeans took over the entire world first and foremost because of books. We can claim that it was guns and big sailing boats and so on, but honestly it was in the end, books that made the most difference. And if you would like to get back to the old form of information gathering, come visit this website. Their name says it all. It has a huge collection of printed books for you to browse through. Over 2.5 million unique books in all. They also claim they have the less well-known books in stock as well. From topics like geography, biology, health, entertainment, sports, romance, religion, crime, science fiction and many many more. It is like a storeroom of information and knowledge. Yes, the Internet does contain some information but you will never get the depth and the wealth of information than from books. Check out their books currently on offer. Oh, Book Depository ships worldwide as well. You don't have to be an Englishman to read books, you know. |

I mean, surely you don't intend to read and re-read one book right? Might as well hare with others and get books you never read before in return. It is a good deal actually. All you have to do is to mail the book to another and you get to choose from Paperback Swap's nearly 5 million titles. And it is not just paperbacks, you can trade hardcovers, audio books and even textbooks. I know I have tons of such books on my shelf, just collecting dust. | FullBooks.com Thousands of free textbooks for you! This site has a serious collection of textbooks which are available for free. The site has a very simple interface where the books are arranged by title and all you have to do is to click on whatever books you want and read. There are all in text format, so everyone can read them. The bad thing is that there is no way for you to do a search for a particular book, which means that sometimes you will find it tedious to find the book you want. However, they will improve the interface and make this site even better! |
